When I use to have to travel to San Francisco to the Philippines to visit my family for a month. My kids we're very young at that time.
I had to make sure I had enough diapers with me and their powdered milk. The product in the Philippines are different during the time I brought them along. They only provided local diapers and powdered milk.
There are alot of things to bring along with you. It is not an easy task during that time. We didn't have high technology what we have now.
During our time we had to entertain our youngsters with toys they never seen before to entertain them for hours. I use to bring those musical toys that was educational. Crayon and coloring book.
You also need to pack their medicine in case they get sick during the long period of time.
I also packed a lot of clothing to make sure the child had enough to change during their flight.
At that time we're allowed to bring small cooler with us. I use to prepare the milk ahead of time. I had a lot of milk packed with ice. My child only liked cold milk. It was easier that way to prepare.
During that time our stroller was the heavy kind. Not like what they have now where you just fold like an umbrella.
I always picked a flight that was during the night. It was easier for me to put my kids to sleep. It didn't change their pattern.
You won't believe they sleep longer on the plane and you spend less worry about them.
I also packed their favorite food in case they didn't eat the food on the plane.
It is better this way with no worries.
My technique when before you will fly up in the air is to give your child their bottle to suck on to prevent them getting ear pocket. If, you don't do this your child will be an unhappy camper during the long flight. He/she will have an ear pocket and will give them diarrhea. It has happened to me before.
I always packed cotton balls that are in a zip lock that are wet when they are an infant if they are sensitive with baby wipes.
The benefit the fly attendant will help you during your need.
The same effect when you are landing give your child a bottle so he/she will not get an ear pocket.
Before our trip I had adjusted the time pattern of my child. I made sure my child didn't eat anything during the day will upset their stomach.
When my kids got older I notice when they ate any dairy product like cheese or chocolate it would upset their stomach. I had passed off them eating it knowing we would fly a long period of time.
You also have to make sure they are not constipated.
Once you get a hang on traveling with your kids it will be easier on the long run.
After you have arrived at your destination and your child is in a new environment they will be adjusting themselves to a new life style. Give them time to adjust themselves. They may cling on to you more since the people they will see are new faces.
Make sure you have mosquito repentant they are prong to get bitten during on their trip.
Make sure you don't drink the water. Most people are sensitive to tap water. It is better if you drink mineral water to be safe,
When eating at the restaurant always ask what kind of water is made with beverage like black gulaman and the ice made in halo halo to prevent getting a bad stomach ache.
Some people are sensitive when they drink the water from the Philippines.
Make sure you don't eat fruits that has been out in the sun for a long time.
There will be a time when your family and relatives want to leave your child behind with a nanny to take care of them.
This is what I learn leave a piece of your clothing that you just wore for example a t-shirt. Believe me it will work. The smell on your shirt your child will sense you are still with them no matter if you are really not there.
I have tried it and it really works well. Lay your child on that shirt. They will sleep for a long period of time.
Always ask for a playpen and a swing it is something you will need to bring along or have someone provide for you at your stay.
Filipino have a tendency to carry your child most often. When you return back home you will have a hard time adjusting yourself.
If, your child is under age make sure you bring a car seat they don't provide that here. They carry their child on their lap. Your kids will have a hard time adjusting themselves when you return back to your country.
When you fly back home make sure you tell your family and friends not to think of your child during their flight. They will have a hard time sleeping on the plane.
Tip:
Always make sure you have a consent letter stating your allowed to bring your child who is a minor when you travel alone with the other parent. Most airlines will ask it from you. Have a copy of the parents identification. Just to play safe.
