I remember when I use to cram for
school and stay awake there was a beverage called, Jolt Cola to stay awake at
night.
Jolt cola is an American drink that was made in 1985. It was the first carbonated energy drink that offered a lot of sugar and twice the amount of caffeine with a taste of soda.
It has been discontinued since 2009.
During our time students in high school didn't drink coffee. This year as my son are cramming they drink milk tea, iced coffee and regular soda to keep them wide awake at night.
He ends up ordering fast food and being delivered to your home. He says's , he need these type of food because he is stress from passing out projects on a daily basis.
I use to complain how he would eat, but I realized later the school system must be harder when I was young especially in the Philippines.
He only eat this kind of food for a week and goes back to his regular meals.
I no longer ask my son about his food or interfered with him. From all the stress I see him stay during the late morning just to finish his home work on time.
Having to wake up the same morning is so hard on him. You see him so drained and tired. He never complain about the pressure he is in.
As a mother I stay up late with him feeling I am also being pressured. I worry for him and try not him see me this way.
In the school system in the Philippines there is clearance required before the school can give your report card. If, you are incomplete you can't receive your report card on time.
I don't recall having that in high school in the States.
How do some people deal with the pressure from school? Do they even talk about it with their family and friends?
I see my son listening to music in his ear while he is absorbing all the projects he need to turn in.
He takes a break by playing video games on his gadgets to keep his mind preoccupied and rest away from his stress.
They say when you are on your last year from high school or college school becomes really difficult for the students. The school expects so much from you due you will be graduating soon.
In some college you need to pay for a field trip that is mandatory for your son/daughter to graduate from their school. The school will pick and vote which country they would travel too. Your son/daughter is required to have their passport ready when that times in order for them to prepare their visa if it is needed.
The payment for their field trip is by installment or you can pay in full. You will receive a letter from the school and let the parent sign it.
In the Philippines there is always a consent form to fill up in every activity they are holding at their school. It is mandatory for your son/daughter to turn it in before the deadline.
They also count that in their records which reply slips you have turn in. It also reflects on your son's education.
I realized the best thing in the school in the Philippines is that they offer a program call, OJT which means On the Job Training in courses you plan to do in the future career.
I think this a great advantage for students to see if this course is really meant for them.
I've known so many friends who had attended school and graduated from a degree. It turns out later it wasn't the career they wanted to be in. They ended up going back to school or they end up finding a different job not related to what degree they have.
In every year students have a Christmas party at their school? They have exchange gifts and these students get to write three items what they want for the price of PHP 500.00 ($10.00). It all depends on your school how much amount can be given.
The person is anonymous who you are giving the gift too. You only find out on that day when you have opened your gift.
Christmas party are usually a potluck or catered depending what has been decided upon. There will always be amount to be given to contribute,
My son is off for one month from school on his Christmas break. Every school is all different.
