Mom Violy's Birthday Lunch at Mamou, Gateway 2

Carmina asked Mom Violy what kind of food she would like to eat for her upcoming birthday. Mom Violy said she was craving for a restaurant that serves steak and lobster. Carmina gave Mom Violy a list of restaurants for her to decide with a link of the websites for her to see which one look something she would like to try. One week before Mom Violy's birthday she made her final choice where she would like to try  Mamou . Carmina had picked up Mom Violy at her home before heading to Gateway 2 located in Cubao, Quezon City. Mamou is located ground floor inside Gateway 2. Upon entering the person asked if we had any reservations however, they do except walk as well was seated at the table of our choice.  The person had handed us the menu. Beverages Menu Bread and butter were served after we had placed our order. Our appetizer was the Mamou's Bacon Steak. Mom Violy decided to order her lobster tail with rice. Carmina had ordered Beer Battered Fish and Malt Vinegar with choice of pot

Slang Words Used Often in the Philippines

Often my mom always says; open the television when you really cannot open it. You can only turn it on.

When I was young and until I am older I always correct my mom with her grammar. Her response is always whatever. She will not admit her grammar is right. She will always say, the wrong way.

One time my mom and I we're traveling and she told me to take a "movie camera" what she meant was take a video. From the moment on I just reminisce all the things she tells me. For some reason I would always correct her.

My mom told my son when he was using the computer to move the "moose" which she meant the mouse.

Some time my mom wants to swear she will ask me which finger does she use. She ended up using her index finger instead when she is driving. The person she is trying to swear at start laughing as he/she passes by.

My mom loves eating my lazy sushi, but the way she pronounce the word is like she is asking for a key in Tagalog which is "susi".

There other word she cannot pronounce is Korean there is a corn. She will pronounce it as "Cornean".

My mom tells me she wants to order "pecha" or "pisa". She is referring to the word, “pizza".

When you tell my mom a story and she doesn't want to hear any more about it she will say, "na hilo ako sayo". In her terms she is saying, she is already feeling dizzy.

There are times we are shopping in a mall and they are playing really loud music. My mom will tell the store to lower their music. She will say, she is getting a headache and she cannot concentrate what she wants to buy.

There was an employee who was asking me a question. She said, can you help me with my "Fish Book". I couldn't stop laughing at her. She said, what is wrong. I told her Facebook is not made of fish.

As you are walking around the street or any where someone will say, "Pssst" it is used to call your attention for example the word "hoy".

People having a bad day from work or any environment they usually remark and say, "bad trip".

This term is used often when you have someone with you that doesn't like to do things your doing or places you want to go to leave early. They use this term often is "KJ" meaning of kill joy.

My mom often tells me when I am at home to "close" the light. What they really mean to turn off the lights in general.

The popular term I live in the staff always say, "bahala ka sa buhay mo". It means do whatever you want because they are giving up an argument with you.

This is popular in my family you ask them what they want to order for food. Their response is anything. Really there is no such food called, "anything". You end up going in a circle because they cannot decide what food they want to eat.

You will notice from Filipino when you are asking some thing they will point with their mouth not with their fingers. You will know they are really Filipino.

My friend some time say "OA" that means over acting when they are describing or telling a story that is over dramatic.

You decide to order a hamburger someone will pronounce it as "hamboorger". You ask the person we don't sell booger.

I have a best friend who always says's this word so often when you are talking to her. She say, "Correk" which really means correct. They are agreeing in what you are telling them.

You will hear this often "ano bayan" which means what the heck?

My staff always say, "ang style bulok" meaning the style is rotten or keep doing it often like a cycle. Or in terms what is new with that.

I hear this term often from my employee:

Sakit sa bangs! - That means bangs ache. It doesn't make sense, but people say, this in terms when they are having a difficult time. It is just an expression to them.

Bahala na si Batman: Let Batman (some times refer to their boyfriend or male spouse) to take care of the situation.

Haba ng hair mo! - Your hair is very long should be cut soon.

Hinay lang. mahina ang kalaban - The enemy is weak!

When someone is eating something and they don't know what it is they often say, "kabayong bundat". It means the horse is pregnant just an expression.

"Maron baguio" - It doesn't necessary mean there is a storm some time it is used when someone eat too much and there might not be enough food for other people to eat.

Some times when someone wants to copy something they call it, "zerox". Actually they will use the copy machine to scan and print.

"Naumay"  meaning you always eat it often and got tired eating the same food.

"Abot" is when the person doesn't know.

You will notice some people say, the brand of a product instead of referring what they need for example:

Colgate: toothpaste
Q-tips: cotton swab

Once you live here in the Philippines for a long time you will pick up their expression that they say often.
