Mom Violy's Birthday Lunch at Mamou, Gateway 2

Carmina asked Mom Violy what kind of food she would like to eat for her upcoming birthday. Mom Violy said she was craving for a restaurant that serves steak and lobster. Carmina gave Mom Violy a list of restaurants for her to decide with a link of the websites for her to see which one look something she would like to try. One week before Mom Violy's birthday she made her final choice where she would like to try  Mamou . Carmina had picked up Mom Violy at her home before heading to Gateway 2 located in Cubao, Quezon City. Mamou is located ground floor inside Gateway 2. Upon entering the person asked if we had any reservations however, they do except walk as well was seated at the table of our choice.  The person had handed us the menu. Beverages Menu Bread and butter were served after we had placed our order. Our appetizer was the Mamou's Bacon Steak. Mom Violy decided to order her lobster tail with rice. Carmina had ordered Beer Battered Fish and Malt Vinegar with choice of pot

Bulalo Recipe



Bulalo is a dish I have asked Manang V to cook for a long time often we want our soup to have more flavor in our dish. By adding corn to our beef dish adds flavoring and becomes something you’ve craved for and from close by it will also looks like nilaga another Filipino dish.

The difference from Nilaga it is cooked with beef meat and Bulalo is cooked with beef shanks with bone marrow that represent being collagen that is healthy for you.

Bulalo Soup Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Kilo Beef Shank with bone and marrow (cut in chucks)
  • 2 - Onion (quartered)
  • 2 - Pieces Garlic (chopped)
  • 2 - Potato (quartered)
  • 2 - Ear of Fresh Corn (remove from husk and slice 2 inches)
  • 1 - Tsp Peppercorns
  • 4 - Tbs Patis (fish sauce)
  • 1 - Small cabbage (quartered)
  • 8 - Cup water or beef stock
  • 2 - Beef cube 
  • Small amount cooking oil
  • Medium Pot

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1:

  • Boil beef shank with bone and marrow for one hour in low heat add sliced onion and once meat is cooked remove the meat from the water place the soup aside until it cools down.
  • Remove all the fat that is floating on the water and throw it away.
  • Set the soup aside.
Step 2:

  • In a medium pot add small amount cooking oil in medium heat
  • Add onion, garlic and fish sauce to sauté
  • Add beef shank with bone and marrow 
  • Add peppercorn
  • Add the soup from the beef and beef cubes
  • Add potato, cabbage and corn
  • Let it cook until vegetables are cooked
  • Season with patis
  • Ready to serve.
