Mom Violy and Carmina’s dining experience at Dean & DeLuca

Mom Violy told me she wanted to order the Paella Negra from Dean & Deluca. Carmina suggested we dine in since we’d never really tried their main courses, always just getting takeout with the cream puffs . Mom Violy agreed, and we arrived about thirty minutes before the lunch rush began. The service was very slow, even though we had ordered ahead of time. They mistakenly brought out the Paella Valenciana , despite Mom Violy repeating the order three times to the person who took it. It turned out the cook on duty made the error, even though it was written down clearly. We know Paella Negra takes a long time to prepare, which is why Mom Violy had requested it to be cooked beforehand. She wanted it as her main meal, but because of the mix-up and feeling hungry, she took a piece of Carmina’s Turkey Club Sandwich and asked for the bacon on the side. I didn’t expect the turkey to be just one piece, and the bread was toasted so hard that it removed one layer of the sandwich. Since ...

Carmina's Observation Based on Experience

Carmina’s observation from able to travel and stay in the United States for two months.

There are people who don’t wear a face mask when there are a lot of people in their homes.

Not like living in the Philippines we wear a face mask going downstairs.

We have families coming over from different homes we are all required to wear a face mask.

Families from the outside don’t eat at our homes they prefer to have it take out cooked by Manang V.

Shopping:

Carmina notice even if there are sign on the doors no face mask no entry. I sometimes see people shop with no face mask they may have it inside their pocket and only wear it upon entering the store.

Sometimes it is not only customers fault I’ve seen employees who are also not wearing one when it is required in some area.

Not like in the Philippines we are required to wear one at all times and stores check our temperature through our palm of the hands or forehead.

Restaurant:

Customers prefer outdoor dining or restaurants that has doors wide open to dine inside the United States.

In the Philippines they also cater people who want to dine outside or inside but our doors are not fully open more closed with air conditioner on.

Driving/riding:

When Carmina is riding with her friend’s car we always have the windows wide open the air is circulation and having our face mask on.

Yes, sometimes we remove it knowing we both have been vaccinated.

Carmina has friends of Mom Violy riding with us the windows are slightly open and have air conditioner on. Carmina has a hard time driving with a face mask but her passenger have their face mask on.

How we live based on how we’re trained in the Philippines adapts us by bringing it along when we do travel.

What I notice the rubbing alcohol in the States is too strong and prefer the brands we use in the Philippines.

Most people carry the gel type or wipes for their hands in the United States.

Outdoor Parks:

After seeing all areas in my vacation some wear face mask outdoors or don’t wear one when not many people are surrounded with them.

They put their face mask on when too many people are surrounded.

Carmina can now understand when she see people exercising it is really difficult to wear a face mask hiking up a hill or just walking outside.

I’ve tried and experienced it when I was with Joanie doing our hiking. I had a hard time breathing and catching my air.

I had to remove it and wear it when I see strangers coming by.

We need to experience it before we talk about it when you’re there. I was also the type of person who questioned Mary Ann while she was in Germany why she had no face mask.

Based on my own experience I can now relate to all my friends who have post in their social media.

Carmina no longer question her friends allow them to do it on their own.

We need to experience it before we begin to question what others are doing to understand the situation.
